Why drinking too much water is bad for you?

About 50-60% of human body is water. Each person are recommended to consume 8 cups of water(2000ml). We all heard that drinking water is good for our health. However, drinking too much water can cause negative effects to our body. If excessive or a large amount of water suddenly enters  human bodies, the excessive water cannot be absorbed into the blood and it cannot be discharged right away either. The rest of the water will accumulate in the body, and it will be stacked in the muscles. Many people who drink too much water will often feel heavy, weak, and unwilling to move. This situation is caused by the accumulation of moisture.

The amount of water everyone need varies, but it can be estimated through age, weight, and amount of exercise.
Here is a formula to calculate recommended water intake:
  • under 30 years old:weight (kilogram) × 40=Recommended water intake (ml)
  • 30 to 50 years old:weight (kilogram) × 35=Recommended water intake (ml)
  • above 56 years old:weight (kilogram) × 30=Recommended water intake (ml)
For example, a 36 years old man that weight 72 kilogram need 72×35= 2520 ml of water each day.

The formula above is enough for people that do not exercise that much. When you go to exercise, you need to increase the intake of water, so it can supplement the loss of water during exercise.

People with exercise habits, of course,  need to drink more water than the average person. According to the recommendations of the American College of Sports Medicine, for 30 minutes of exercise, it is best to increase the water intake by 350 ml.

For example, a 24 years old woman that weight 56 kg exercised for 1 hour today. Today she needs 56×40+(350×2)=2940ml of water.

As we know water is an essential part of our life, the quality of the water is also very important. A good water filtration system that produce clean and quality water will promote your overall health.
