Why is it so important to change water filter cartridges regularly?The water filter cartridge is like a sponge. When the sponge absorbs too much dirt, it has to be rinsed and cleaned before using it again. However, it is not recommended to wash your water filter cartridges in general. Water filter cartridges should be to replace periodically or after filtered certain water flow in order to make sure the cleanness of your drinking water.
If water filter cartridges are not replaced regularly, the dirt will clog the outlet of your water filter.
It will also cause the following potential problems:
- First, because of the increase in water pressure, particles will come out with filtered water.
- Carbon cartridge becomes less or not effective, so residual chlorine and agricultural chemicals cannot be removed.
- If you are using RO system, the membrane will become less effective, so heavy metal, limescale, bacterial etc.
- Bacteria cannot be removed through UV ultraviolet germicidal lamp or UF hollow fiber membrane filter.
When should I change my water filter cartridge?
- If your water filter comes with an LCD or LED reminder function, you can set the time or the number of gallons to remind you.
- Some water filters are equipped with wifi function, which you can download specific apps and remind you to change your water filter cartridge.
- If these methods do not apply for you, you can use some simple tools such as TDS water meter or chlorine indicator to check the water quality at home. That way you will know if you need to change your water filter.
- If you buy from a water filter dealer, there is no need to worry. Your water filter dealer will remind you and change your water filter cartridge for you.
